Yes, Summer and Simplicity are a lifestyle and mindset! I think that is why I ❤️ Summer so much! That fact you can throw on a tank top and shorts with flip flops and be ready to venture out or into your home office (ok so maybe if you have a corporate job but still a sundress with a blazer-EASY). I eat lighter foods, when I am cold I desire hot and dense to help me feel comfy. I can’t be the only one??!! AND yes I go outside more! I play pickleball, hike, walk, sit and slumber on my screened in porch. It’s a lifestyle and mindset I strive for all year round, maybe why I love Maui so much!
What else I have found this summer is I have decluttered more, again it’s that simplicity vibe. I have spent less time watching TV (also I committed to a 90 day additional 1 hr meditation practice recently so that helps!). Have you ever meditated outside while listening to the cicadas and froggies creating a melody? These are all things that make my soul sing!
If you wish to dive in a bit deeper keep reading! Embracing a lifestyle of simplicity during the summer can bring a sense of peace, rejuvenation, and mindfulness. It’s about savoring the season's slower pace and finding joy in the small things. Here are some ways to embody a simple, mindful summer lifestyle AND WHAT IF WE CARRIED SOME OF THESE INTO FALL - OK INTENTION SET👊🏻:
1. Minimalist Living
Declutter Your Space: Use the extra daylight hours to organize and reduce clutter in your home. Simplifying your living space can lead to a clearer mind and less stress.
Capsule Wardrobe: Create a summer capsule wardrobe with a few versatile pieces that you love and feel comfortable wearing. This can make getting dressed easier and more enjoyable.
2. Embrace Outdoor Living
Create an Outdoor Oasis: Set up a comfortable outdoor space where you can relax, read, or enjoy meals. Even a small balcony or a cozy corner of your yard can become a sanctuary.
Unplug and Connect with Nature: Limit screen time and instead, spend time outside appreciating the beauty of nature. This can help reduce stress and improve your mood.
3. Mindful Consumption (Mindset)
Buy Local and Seasonal: Support local farmers and reduce your carbon footprint by purchasing fresh, seasonal produce from nearby markets.
Conscious Spending: Before making a purchase, ask yourself if it truly adds value to your life. Focus on experiences rather than material possessions.
4. Intentional Activities
Slow Down: Give yourself permission to slow down and enjoy the present moment. Whether it's sipping a cold drink, watching the sunset, or simply lounging in a hammock, take time to savor each experience.
Practice Gratitude: Each day, take a few moments to reflect on what you are grateful for. This can help shift your focus from what you lack to what you have.
5. Simplified Routines
Flexible Schedules: Allow yourself to have more flexible routines during the summer. This can reduce pressure and allow for spontaneous activities.
Simple Meal Planning: Plan easy, light meals that require minimal preparation and cooking. Focus on fresh fruits, salads, and grilled dishes.
6. Connection and Community (I didn’t mention this one but YES to family and friend gatherings along with community volunteering!! I did a lot of this!!)
Quality Time with Loved Ones: Summer is a great time to strengthen relationships with friends and family. Organize simple gatherings like potlucks, picnics, or outdoor games.
Community Involvement: Participate in community events or volunteer for local causes. This can help you feel more connected to your community and make a positive impact.
7. Mindful Practices
Meditation and Yoga: Incorporate meditation or yoga into your daily routine. Practicing outdoors can enhance the experience and connect you with the natural world.
Journaling: Write about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This can help you process emotions and gain clarity.
8. Digital Detox
Set Boundaries: Designate specific times for checking emails and social media. This can prevent digital overload and free up time for other activities.
Enjoy Offline Activities: Engage in hobbies or activities that don’t involve screens, such as reading, painting, or gardening.
9. Focus on Well-being
Prioritize Rest: Ensure you get enough sleep and take time to rest and recharge. The longer days and warmer nights of summer can be conducive to relaxation.
Stay Hydrated and Active: Drink plenty of water and engage in physical activities like swimming, biking, or hiking. This can boost your energy and mood.
10. Creative Expression
Explore Creativity: Use the relaxed pace of summer to explore creative pursuits such as writing, photography, or crafts. This can be a fun and fulfilling way to express yourself.
AND THERE IS STILL TIME TO LEAN INTO SOME OF THESE! 🤩
